The suburbs that make up the western pocket of the island are Abu Dhabi’s most exclusive neighbourhoods and are highly popular with ex-pats who have moved to the city.
Home to an upwardly mobile community of Sheikhs, wealthy families and professional couples, these pleasant suburbs consist primarily of large, private family homes set behind quiet tree-lined avenues and modern apartment tower blocks.
Adding to the pulling power of these neighbourhoods are the many fine nurseries, schools and health facilities in the area.
Marina Mall, Khalidiyah Mall and Paris Gallery offer an array of choice for those seeking retail therapy, as well as large supermarket chains and cinemas. Banks, mini markets, restaurants, shops and other amenities are also found in abundance here.
This part of the island is home to the world-renowned Emirates Palace, as well as the beautifully refurbished Intercontinental Hotel and Hilton International. Central downtown Abu Dhabi and all other major five star hotels are just a 10 minute drive away.
Take your choice of any of Abu Dhabi's beaches and you will be lying on the golden sand or swimming in the warm water in under 10 minutes. There has also recently been much development around the Bateen Jetty, which is ideal for those with boats and jetskis.
Abu Dhabi's public beaches and boardwalk can be reached by foot, and Khalidiyah is also home to two public parks, which is ideal for families with children.
It is easy to see why these suburbs are in such demand.
